How To Remove Your Gel Nails At Home
I thought I would share some helpful tips on how to remove your gels at home safely during the current Lockdown. Please try not to peel or pick off your gels as this can damage your nails! Below I have a list of what equipment you will need and a step by step guide on the removal process.
What you will need…
Acetone (pure Acetone is best)
Cotton Pads
Kitchen Foil (cut up into small squares)
Nail File (120/180 File to help loosen your top coat)
Orange Wood Stick OR a Cuticle Pusher
Nail Buffer
Cuticle Oil
Step 1: Nail File
Buff your nail with the nail file to break through the top coat to the colour underneath.
Step 2: Cotton Pads & Acetone
Soak the cotton pad pieces in Acetone and place on each nail.
Step 3: Kitchen Foil
Wrap each nail in kitchen foil (make sure to cut up the foil pieces before starting). Try to wrap the foil tight around the nail to prevent the Acetone drying out too quickly.
Step 4: WAIT 10 MINUTES
Allow at least 10 minutes for your nails to soak, while keeping your nails warm (cold nails take longer).
Step 5: Cuticle Pusher OR Orange Wood Stick
Remove foil from one finger at a time and gently remove the flaking gel with the cuticle pusher or orange stick. (Repeat on each nail)
It’s important to be gentle and not to force the gel off so you don’t damage the nail!
Step 6: Nail Buffer
Gently buff over nails to remove any gel residue left over. If gel still remains on the nails repeat steps 2-5 until all gel is removed.
Step 7: Cuticle Oil
Finish with cuticle oil, massage into your cuticles for healthy, nourished nails.
Step 8: Hand Cream
Apply hand cream twice a day (morning and evening) to help protect your skin and keep your skin well hydrated.
